MELVYN EVANS
Yew Tree Gallery
Master printmaker MELVYN EVANS is an admirer of John Maltby's concepts and imagery, echoes of which are visible in his multi-layered linocuts of archetypal figures and the marks made by man in the landscape. Shapes of line and colour resemble half seen Celtic heads, stone cross forms, trees and upright stones. By experimenting with non-traditional lino cutting tools, Melvyn creates texture and varied surfaces, emulating the appearance of erosion, worn symbols and revealing the inner history and spirit of the landscape. All the following linocuts are framed.
