REBECCA WALKLETT
For REBECCA WALKLETT’s art, the earth yields up tin and copper which she raises into bowls and other vessels through patient tapping of her hammers. Various patinas give colour enhancement to the bare metal, further decorated by fine tooling for which she uses a variety of planishing hammers. She also makes small metal boxes - receptacles for treasured possessions. At a recent residency at Cot Valley (Porth Nanven) on the Penwith peninsula she was awe-struck to realise that the rounded rocks in the cliff face many metres above sea level are a raised beach. From drawings of rock fissures and stone patterns at this ancient site, Rebecca has used steel punches, etching and patination to replicate the designs nature imposed at this impressive coastal area.
