Well-known as an illustrator, SUE LEWINGTON<\/strong>\u2019s books of the Scillies and West Cornwall are avidly collected and enjoyed - her style being instantly recognisable.\u00a0\u00a0 During Lockdown, however, Sue experimented with a different way of working \u2013 painting what she felt rather than what she saw; using emotive rather than descriptive colours and moving more towards abstraction. This series of work she interprets as \u2018Hiraeth\u2019 \u2013 \u201ca longing and love for this land, whether in West Penwith, Scilly or Orkney and Shetland\u201d. Sue\u2019s medium is mixed media \u2013 incorporating collage, inks and gouache. Framed in deep rugged mouldings with a gold leaf slip, these paintings have a gem-like quality.<\/p>\n
