ESTHER SMITH’s sources of inspiration stem from her passion for nature and love of stories. Most of her small automata and tableaux have a narrative context to entice the viewer’s imagination. Using reclaimed tin with patinated brass and copper, she embellishes the metal with gold and silver leaf creating objects of varying colours without recourse to paint or pigment! Her strong silhouettes are drawn on to metal before hand cutting with a jeweller’s fretsaw.
