After an idyllic childhood in St Ives – spent mainly outdoors, Sally’s initial art training was at St Martin’s School of Art in 1968. However, greater understanding about ‘art’ and the skill of drawing was derived from 5 years working at the Richard Demarco Gallery in Edinburgh where international exhibitions of contemporary artists were held during the Festival.. Her curatorial skills led her to stage exhibitions abroad and finally to work at MOMA in Oxford.   A return to St Ives with her children in 2002 led her back to her own painting. Following a 2-year course at the School of Painting, Sally has subsequently devoted much of her time to a deeper involvement with the landscape – attracted by ‘the poetry of place – the light, the colour, the mood’…and equally to flowers and interiors.

New work has come in from JUDITH ROWE to replace the many sold during the ‘SPRING BURST’ exhibition. Working in Hastings, she brings a sunny, seaside feel to her delicate slipware ceramics.

A return to the glass workshop after months of lockdown has given more impetus to the skills of Andrew Sanders and David Wallace as they transform molten blobs of glass into beautiful wine glasses, bottles, vases and paperweights.

An unconventional jeweller, SARAH DREW uses found objects within her designs, picked up on beach walks, combined with oxidized silver – often fused into abstract shapes to create striking necklaces and brooches. Fascinated by Viking and Roman jewellery, she uses similar basic tools and ancient techniques for her work, often ‘ageing’ a piece to give a worn look. Living near the South Cornwall coast, Sarah finds inspiration from sea colours and contrasting dark slate rocks, so it is not surprising that opals are her favourite stones – revealing similar flashes of turquoise, green and gold light as they are polished. These she sets into rings and bracelets of silver or brass.

Continuing her use of beach finds and recycled silver and gold (as a gesture against the harmful and dangerous mining of precious metals) she has added to her collection of jewellery with these unusual –and eminently wearable pieces ~

More pots from LAUREL KEELEY reflect her fascination with her new country surroundings. Her graphic decoration of bowl forms and slab pots illustrate the field geometry around her, the red tilled earth and crop rows, winter trees and hedge patterns and the distant hills of Devon rising behind them. A potter of many years’ standing, Laurel is a Member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen and the South West Academy of Fine & Applied Arts.
